I came up with the concept of Lucky Dog Camp over 20 years ago. When my four children were younger, I was searching for a camp that reminded me of my summers as a kid. Summertime to me means playing outside all day long, exploring the woods and streams, and relaxing in hammocks, playing in sprinklers, running through the fields with my dogs, and building forts with my brothers. I wouldn't come inside until my mom rang the bell to come in for dinner. I wanted to recreate that for my children.
I combined my training as an elementary and early childhood teacher with my love of animals and created a place for kids to just play in a safe and seemingly un-structured environment. Because the camp is small and intimate with a very high counselor/ camper ratio, the children feel like they are playing all day as one big family. It makes me very happy to see campers and counselors come back year after year. All of my counselors are all past campers!
